HOUSTON — The reunion between Jacob Martin and the Houston Texans is official. The Texans announced Martin's signing Monday morning. His return to Houston came following the release of safety Darius Joiner.

Martin rejoins the Texans after his release from the Denver Broncos in March. He played half the 2022 campaign with the Broncos following a trade from the New York Jets on Nov. 1.

Martin registered a combined 2.5 sacks in 13 games between his time with the Jets and Broncos. His ability to get after the quarterback gives Martin a realistic chance to crack the Texans' 53-man roster due to coach DeMeco Ryans' swarm defensive scheme.

"What I'm looking for and the type of players that we're looking for are players who are looking to swarm," Ryans said. "We want smart players who truly are dedicated to being the best that they want to be and guys who are coachable and guys that want to go win."

Martin's first stint with the Texans came ahead of the 2019 season. The Seattle Seahawks included him in the trade package to acquire defensive end Jadevon Clowney from the Texans.

In three seasons in Houston, Martin tallied 10.5 sacks and 54 total tackles. He became a reliable EDGE rusher for former defensive coordinators Romeo Crennel (2019), Anthony Weaver (2020) and Lovie Smith (2021).
