Texans Sign Ex Browns DE Chase Winovich to Contract - Full Details
The Houston Texans didn't waste time adding depth to their defensive line on Monday, as the team will sign former Cleveland Browns defensive end Chase Winovich to a one-year, $2 million deal, per reports from NFL Network.
Winovich, a third-round pick by the New England Patriots in 2019, played three seasons in Foxborough for legendary coach Bill Belichick before joining the Browns for the 2022 season.
His first two seasons with New England saw the former Michigan Wolverine put together some solid performances, as he finished with 5.5 sacks in each of his first two NFL seasons.
Winovich appeared in just six games last season - including the 27-14 win over the Texans on Dec. 4 in Deshaun Watson's return to NRG - and recorded 20 total tackles and one sack.
He delivered a heartfelt message to Browns fans on Twitter once the signing was announced.
"I don’t owe my twitter family and supporters anything but the truth - I whole heartedly loved Cleveland and my teammates there so much," he wrote. "Thank you to whole Browns org - the Haslam family, management, and all the coaches for believing me and for all the love and opportunities!"
The Texans also agreed to terms with former San Francisco 49ers defensive tackle Hassan Ridgeway on Monday, further bolstering the d-line.
