'I Am Not Leaving': Texans GM Nick Caserio Debunks Patriots Exit Rumors
HOUSTON — General manager Nick Caserio's future with the Houston Texans appeared bleak. Last Week, NFL insider Michael Lombardi was the first to report that there is a possibility Caserio could depart from the Texans following the 2023 NFL Draft.
And at one point, there was a belief Caserio would return to the New England Patriots after his brief two-year stop in Houston. Caserio joined the Texans in January 2021 after 20 years with the Patriots.
However, on Monday, Caserio debunked those rumors, cementing his standing with the franchise going forward.
"Quite frankly, I'm almost embarrassed I have to [address this," Caserio said. "I feel sort of like Leonardo DiCaprio in Wolf of Wall Street. I'm not leaving. There's never really been any substantive discussions of the sort."
"My philosophy is to do the best job that I can for the people in this organization. In this building. And for this city. As long as ownership approves of what we are trying to do — certainly, their support is welcome."
The Texans have won a combined seven games in Caserio's first two seasons. And Houston's unpleasant performances led to three coaching hires with David Culley (2021) and Lovie Smith (2022). In February, Caserio made his third coaching hire with DeMeco Ryans.
"It’s been awesome working with Nick," Ryans said. "We’ve hit the ground running and Nick is awesome to work with. Nick is a very knowledgeable guy and I’m happy to be a part of a team that has a GM in place who has so much experience."
Now, it appears that the Caserio-Ryans partnership is here for the long haul.
