Houston Texans' general manager Nick Caserio said trading Brandon Cooks to the Dallas Cowboys was the best decision for everybody involved.

The Houston Texans ended their tenure with veteran wide receiver Brandin Cooks Sunday with a trade that sent him to the Dallas Cowboys. Cooks’ departure this off-season was inevitable due to his fractured relationship with the team following the events of the trade deadline.

General manager Nick Caserio joined “Payne & Pendergast” on Sports Radio 610 Monday morning to speak on Cooks' jettison. The Texans received a 2023 fifth-round pick and a 2024 sixth-rounder in the exchange for Cooks.

"Brandin has been a good player for a number of years in this league — he has been a very productive player," Caserio said. "In the end, we felt this was the best decision for everybody involved. Our responsibility is to take all of the information there is, process that information, and make the decision that we feel is in our best interest. That’s why we did what we did."

Cooks has been the Texans' top receiver since the Los Angeles Rams traded him to Houston in 2020.

In that time, he appeared in 44 games where he recorded 2,886 yards on 238 catches and 15 touchdowns. He has reached the 1,000-yard receiving mark in two of his three seasons with the Texans.

In his final game, Cooks led Houston to a 32-31 victory over the Indianapolis Colts on Jan. 8. He put together his best performance of the season by finishing the day with 106 yards on five catches and a touchdown.

Despite their relationship turning sour, Caserio said he and the team have the utmost respect for Cooks both on and off the field.

"A lot of respect and appreciation for Brandin, what he’s done in this league," Caserio said. "He’s going to be a good player for a number of years here moving forward.”
