'Show Up, Show Out!' DeMeco Ryans Message For Texans Fans
Saturday will be the first time in 230 days that the Houston Texans will play football at NRG Stadium.
The last time they were there, the Texans were bullied on the ground by the Jacksonville Jaguars surrendering 169 rushing yards and three touchdowns in a 31-3 loss. Houston makes its return home with DeMeco Ryans, who will step into NRG Stadium for the first time as a head coach after playing there for six seasons to begin his career, and he has a message for Texans fans.
"Show up, show out, be loud for us, even though it's a preseason game," Ryans said. "When we see the stands packed and people are very encouraging us, cheering for us, it means a lot to our players."
Ryans was selected by the Texans in the second round of the 2006 NFL Draft. He quickly became a household name in Houston, winning Rookie of the Year honors after leading the league with 126 solo tackles, 156 total, an interception and six pass break-ups.
He started every single game except for 10 in his six-year career, after Ryans tore his Achilles tendon which cut his 2010 season short after six games.
Running back Dameon Pierce, like Ryan in 2010, had his season cut short, but instead due to an ankle injury. His message to Texans fans was similar to Ryans, but with an important detail as well.
"Be loud. Be safe. Be present," Pierce said. "And don't eat too many chili dogs at the concession stand."
No matter what your concession stand food choice is, the Texans need all the fan support they can get when they kickoff against the Miami Dolphins at 3 p.m. CT Saturday.
