Texans OG Kenyon Green Making 'Progress' In Off-Season Workouts

After a subpar rookie season, second-year offensive guard Kenyon Green has made some major progress in his ongoing development this off-season.

HOUSTON — The Houston Texans are entering Thursday's draft in the same position as 2022. The Texans can make a pair of picks in the first round due to the blockbuster trade that sent quarterback Deshaun Watson to the Cleveland Browns in March 2022.

This year, the Texans have picks No. 2 and 12, nearly identical to the selections of No. 3 and 13 in 2022. Houston traded with the Philadelphia Eagles to take the No. 15 pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. And as a result, the Texans drafted offensive guard Kenyon Green.

The rookie offensive lineman from Texas A&M had a rocky rookie campaign. But according to general manager Nick Caserio, Green has made progress in his ongoing development since starting his off-season training in February.

"He’s made progress," Caserio said per Sports Radio 610. "He knows and we know that his season was up and down, and that’s the reality of it. No one is going to sugarcoat that, but you have to take accountability, got to take ownership, and got to come up with solutions and find a way to get better."

A concussion sustained during the second week of training camp made it hard for Green to get adjusted to the NFL, which resulted in a rough rookie campaign.

After missing nearly all of camp, Green played 15 games for the 3-13-1 Texans. In 832 snaps, Green finished the 2022 season with an overall grade of 37.7. He allowed 47 pressures and four sacks while receiving 12 penalties, according to Pro Football Focus.

Green underwent a procedure on his knee in March and has made a full recovery. The offseason procedure marked the second time in Green's career he had surgery on his knee. He had a clean-up on his knee last offseason to mend a meniscus.

"The most important thing for those players is to take advantage of the opportunity that they have here in April and May and June and get ready for the season," Caserio said. "Whatever your physical situation is, whatever your status is, focus on what you can control, work to get better, and you can make progress."
