Texans Laremy Tunsil: Houston Is 'Home' After Record Extension

Laremy Tunsil is extremely thrilled to remain "home" following contract extension with the Houston Texans.

HOUSTON — The Houston Texans signed Pro-Bowl left tackle Laremy Tunsil to a three-year extension worth up to $75 million on Sunday.

The deal also includes $60 million in total guarantees, making Tunsil the highest-paid offensive tackle in league history, in what has been described as a 'true reset on the market' at the position.

Tunsil had arguably his best career season for the 3-13-1 Texans in 2022. He finished his fourth season in Houston with 676 pass-blocking snaps, 17 pressures, and one sack.

And following a successful individual campaign that left him as a three-time Pro Bowl left tackle, Tunsil is thrilled to remain in Houston.

"I’m glad to be here with H-Town for another four years," Tunsil said "I consider this home. I built relationships with the coaches. I built relationships with the players. I built relationships with the front office. So just staying here, talking to you guys daily, talking to my teammates daily, talking to the coaches, it means a lot."

Tunsil joined the Texans in a block-buster trade in 2019 from the Miami Dolphins. And with the exception of 2021, which ended his season due to injury, the veteran tackle has been Houston's best offensive lineman over the last four seasons.

Outside of Tunsil's first season, the Texans have not won many games during his tenure. But Tunsil takes pride in adding his name to the list of players who have established themselves as Texans' legends in franchise history.

"It means a lot for the team to believe in me especially coming from this organization that has unbelievable players like J.J. Watt, Andre Johnson, Vince Wilfork, [Brian] Cushing,” Tunsil said. "It means a lot to me that this organization believed in me and gave me another shot, another four years to contribute to the team."
