Texans Legend Andre Johnson Snubbed by Pro Football Hall of Fame
HOUSTON — Former Houston Texans wide receiver Andre Johnson did not make the 2023 Pro Football Hall of Fame. To be enshrined, each nominee had to receive at least an 80 percent approval vote from the Selection Committee at the annual meeting.
Johnson was a finalist last year but fell short of becoming a first-ballot Hall of Famer for the class of 2022.
He was one of 15 finalists in January and once again did not gather the required 80 percent of votes.
Houston drafted Johnson with the No. 3 pick of the 2003 NFL Draft from the University of Miami. In 12 seasons with the Texans, Johnson became the franchise’s all-time leader in career receiving yards (13,597), receptions (1,012), and receiving touchdowns (64).
As a seven-time Pro-Bowler, Johnson became the inaugural member of the Texans’ Ring of Honor in 2017. He would have been the first player in franchise history to be selected for the Hall of Fame.
"I’m just a kid from Miami — I made Houston home," Johnson said. "I see so many people, and everybody is always talking about, ‘When you got to Canton, we’re going to be there.’ I can only imagine what Canton will be looking like. It’s something that is talked about a lot. Especially with the finalist list coming out."
The Pro Football Hall of Fame class of 2023 consists of Ronde Barber, Darrelle Revis, Jow Thomas, DeMarcus Ware and Zach Thomas, Don Coryell, Chuck Howley, Joe Klecko and Ken Riley.
