Texans Legend Andre Johnson Honored To Be Hall Of Fame Finalist

After missing out on the opportunity last year, Houston Texans legend Andre Johnson is honored to be a finalist for the Hall of Fame for the second consecutive year.

HOUSTON — Former Houston Texans wide receiver Andre Johnson is one of 15 finalists for the 2023 Pro Football Hall of Fame. To be enshrined, each nominee must receive at least an 80 percent approval vote from the Selection Committee at the annual meeting.

Johnson was a finalist last year but fell short of becoming a first-ballot Hall of Famer for the class of 2022. After missing out on the opportunity last February, Johnson said he had received several text messages and phone calls from family and friends wishing him well.

Johnson said he wasn't disappointed.

"It’s a tremendous honor," Johnson said. "It just shows everything that I put out, all the hard work I put in, just your peers and the voters respecting your game and the way you carried yourself out on the field. It would mean a lot."

The Texans drafted Johnson with the No. 3 pick of the 2003 NFL Draft from the University of Miami. In 12 seasons with the Texans, Johnson became the franchise’s all-time leader in career receiving yards (13,597), receptions (1,012), and receiving touchdowns (64).

As a seven-time Pro-Bowler, Johnson became the inaugural member of the Texans’ Ring of Honor in 2017. He would be the first player in franchise history to be selected to the Hall of Fame.

"I’m just a kid from Miami — I made Houston home," Johnson said. "I see so many people, and everybody is always talking about, ‘When you got to Canton, we’re going to be there.’ I can only imagine what Canton will be looking like. It’s something that is talked about a lot. Especially with the finalist list coming out."

In addition to Johnson, wide receivers Reggie Wayne and Torry Holt are also finalists, along with cornerback Darrelle Revis and safety Darren Woodson.
