Texans LOOK: DeMeco Ryans Spends Father's Day With Son At Practice

Despite practicing with his players on Sunday, Texans coach DeMeco Ryans made sure to have some time with his son on the field in honor of Father's Day.
In this story:

It was “Bring Your Kid to Work” Day for Houston Texans coach DeMeco Ryans on Sunday, as the rookie boss hosted a team practice … with his son by his side.

M.J., Ryans' eldest son of his three kids with wife Jamila, roamed the sidelined and tossed a football with his dad and with some of the players on Father's Day, bringing a young burst of energy to the sidelines.

"It was fun having my son out at practice today," Ryans said. "I asked him [this morning] at 5 a.m. to see if he was ready to go, [but] I didn't think he was going to get up."

To Ryans' surprise, M.J. was fired up and in on accompanying his father to the early morning player workout.

"I'm proud of him and all of his accomplishments," Ryans said. "He's made [our family] proud, and made me a proud father. Happy Father's Day to all the fathers ... wish you guys the best."

The first-year coach has a tall order in front of him, especially given the recent hardship that Houston has endured over the last few years. He'll have a fresh new offense behind rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud and a maybe-explosive defense behind returning secondary defenders Jalen Pitre and Derek Stingley Jr. and rookie edge rusher Will Anderson Jr.

His new squad is set to improve upon last year's Texans team, but that doesn't make the journey any less difficult for Ryans.

But if he manages to secure a spot in the playoffs and beyond during his time with Houston, he'll likely make his son even prouder of his dad than he already is, which we bet is saying something.

The Texans 2023-24 campaign begins on the road against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday, Sept. 10.
