Report: Texans And Rams To Have Joint Practices During Preseason
The Houston Texans are joining forces with the Los Angeles Rams.
According to reports, the Texans and Rams plan to have multiple joint practices during the summer in preparation for the 2024 season. This means that Houston will play host to Los Angeles as one of its three preseason games.
Albeit the preseason carries little weight over to the regular season outlook, the Texans can exhale knowing two of their opponents. On Tuesday, the league announced that Houston and Chicago would play in the Hall of Fame Game on August 1 in Canton, Ohio, at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium.
It makes sense for the two franchises to kickstart the season given the inductees. The Bears, who also own the No. 1 pick, will send former All-Pro returner Devin Hester to the Hall of Fame following an 11-year career.
As for the Texans, they will enshrine Andre Johnson as the first player in franchise history to enter Canton.
“It’s exciting playing in the Hall of Fame game,” Texans coach DeMeco Ryans said at the NFL owners meetings. “I think the credit goes to Andre Johnson for him getting selected, the first Texan to be selected into the Hall of Fame. For us to go up as a team to support Andre in the Hall of Fame game, the first time as an organization playing in the Hall of Fame game, I think it’s exciting to really kick off the 2024 season with our team being in the forefront.”
Back in Houston, the Texans will be inching closer toward the end of camp given that they start a week early with the Hall of Fame Game. This likely means more action for the starters during team drills and in the preseason matchup, including reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year C.J. Stroud.
Los Angeles and Houston were two of the bigger surprise teams in 2024. Two years removed from winning their first Super Bowl in the Sean McVay era, the Rams finished 10-7 and earned a playoff bid behind a breakout season from rookie receiver Puka Nacua.
Houston, which hired Ryans back home following his stint as the 49ers defensive coordinator, improved its win total by seven games to claim the AFC South for the first time since 2019. Stroud, alongside 2023 leading receiver Nico Collins, bested the Cleveland Browns in the wild-card round before losing to the Baltimore Ravens in the divisional round a week later.
The Rams will be starting fresh up the middle following the retirement of three-time Defensive Player of the Year winner Aaron Donald. Still, there should be fireworks in practice between Matthew Stafford, Cooper Kupp, Derek Stingley Jr., Will Anderson Jr. and Tank Dell, among other players.
Dates and times for the preseason visit have not been announced as of this time.
