Texans Draft Florida QB Anthony Richardson at No. 2 in New Mock
When the Houston Texans are finally on the clock in the draft, they will likely take their next franchise quarterback. However, whether they stay at No. 2 overall to do so or trade up for the first pick is yet to be seen.
While mock drafts have the Texans choosing either Ohio State's C.J. Stroud or Alabama's Bryce Young, Pro Football Network's latest mock has them going a different route with the No. 2 pick.
Rd. 1 No. 2 - Anthony Richardson - QB (Florida)
Anthony Richardson is not some blank slate QB prospect with a bad process and innate accuracy issues. His inconsistencies with his accuracy stem from mechanical issues in his lower body, which are completely fixable. You can see him working through his process on tape, but as a one-year starter, he hasn’t had the reps to sharpen that skill set.
After a sensational performance at the combine, Richardson has soared up draft boards - as seen in this mock draft. In his lone season as the starter at Florida, he threw for 2,549 yards and 17 touchdowns, however only completed 53.8 percent of his passes.
Richardson, though, also brings an elite ability to run the ball - rushing for 654 yards and nine touchdowns.
It is hard not to see why scouts are intrigued by Richardson as a prospect despite some not-so-great passing numbers at Florida. He's far from the safest pick but the ceiling is potentially sky-high.
The question then for Houston becomes whether or not they want to take a potential project quarterback with their first pick. Stroud and Young are undoubtedly the "safe" picks, but Richardson could go a lot earlier than most people anticipate.
