'Instrumental' Pro Bowler Laremy Tunsil Texans Non-QB MVP

Laremy Tunsil does not play the flashiest position, but the Pro Bowl left tackle has been named as the Houston Texans' non-quarterback MVP entering the 2023 season.

HOUSTON — Fans of the Houston Texans may not buy tickets to watch Pro Bowl Laremy Tunsil block the best defensive linemen inside NRG Stadium. But no one can deny Tunsil's importance to the franchise.

USA Today's NFL Wire recently named each team's non-quarterback MVP, and it is Tunsil who takes the helm as Houston's most valuable player entering the 2023 season.

"Not only is Tunsil reliable as a pass protector, but the game benefits from his presence…The three-time Pro Bowler will be instrumental in keeping rookie C.J. Stroud upright and allowing the quarterback a less stressful NFL transition."

Tunsil joined the Texans in a block-buster trade in 2019 from the Miami Dolphins. And with the exception of 2021, which ended his season due to injury, the veteran tackle has been Houston's best offensive lineman over the last four years.

Tunsil had arguably his best career season for the 3-13-1 Texans in 2022. He finished his fourth season in Houston and had 676 pass-blocking snaps, 17 pressures, and one sack.

"I want to turn this program around,” Tunsil said. “That’s what I want: to turn this organization around from a losing organization into a winning organization. I want to finish my career here in Houston."

Tunsil signed a three-year contract extension worth up to $75 million in March. The deal also included $60 million in total guarantees, which made Tunsil the highest-paid offensive tackle in league history.
