Houston Texans Have Nine Picks In 2024 NFL Draft After Stefon Diggs Trade
The Houston Texans likely were forced to alter the draft boards after the trade for Stefon Diggs, not that you'll hear general manager Nick Caserio complaining about it. Besides bringing in a superstar wide receiver, Houston landed an additional draft pick this season, acquiring the No. 189 overall pick (sixth round). The other pick Houston landed is a 2025 fifth-rounder, swapping a 2025 second-rounder to seal the trade for Diggs.
Houston remains without a first-round pick but has two in the second, fourth and seventh rounds, along with a third-rounder.
The Texans' offseason has been about swapping draft capital for instant-impact players. Prior to bringing in Diggs, Houston sent a 2024 seventh-round pick to Cincinnati to obtain running back Joe Mixon.

The Texans' offseason has been marked by their pursuit of improvement, a strategy that could pay off if they take a leap forward while aligning their futures with Diggs. Teammates have already begun to sacrifice to keep the superstar happy, particularly Jimmie Ward, who sold his jersey number to Diggs as the ex-Bill leaves behind No. 14 for No. 1.
According to NFL insider Aaron Wilson, Diggs paid roughly six figures to obtain the number from safety Jimmie Ward.
"Sometimes when there's a jersey number change in NFL, it comes at a price," Wilson said on X. "New #Texans wide receiver Stefon Diggs obtained the No. 1 jersey from veteran safety Jimmie Ward, for roughly $100,000, per league sources @KPRC2 And Ward is back to No. 20, his old #49ers number @KPRC2"
