NFL Mock Draft: Texans Get 'Ultra-Athletic' Edge and 'Boom-or-Bust' QB

Kentucky quarterback Will Levis - a former first overall pick projection - joins the Houston Texans at No. 12 in Bucky Brooks' final mock NFL Draft of the year.
In this story:

Prior to Week 18 of last season, there was no doubt what the Houston Texans would do in tomorrow's first round of the NFL Draft.

The Texans were getting a new quarterback, and for a while there it was actually Kentucky's Will Levis that was projected as that top guy.

Well, times have changed, and now Houston has the No. 2 pick which comes with a healthy side of not getting its choice of quarterbacks.

And with rumors swirling that the team may not draft Ohio State's CJ Stroud for a multitude of reasons ranging from agent relations to test scores, one final mock draft from NFL.com says the Texans won't go quarterback at all with their first pick.

Instead, Houston takes the first defender off the board selecting Texas Tech edge, Tyree Wilson.

"The ultra-athletic edge defender gives first-year head coach DeMeco Ryans a high-end pass rusher to build around," says NFL.com.

With Alabama quarterback Bryce Young on his way to the Carolina Panthers with the first overall pick, Houston does a complete 180 from what was expected of them for the better part of the last 12 months.

But that doesn't mean the Texans won't get a quarterback later, especially with No. 12 in their back pocket.

After Stroud goes to the Indianapolis Colts, Houston still gets its choice of Levis and Florida Gators quarterback Anthony Richardson and goes with the Kentucky man it was projected to target all along.

"The Texans take a flier on a boom-or-bust quarterback prospect with intriguing physical tools and arm talent," NFL.com writes about the selection.

Passing on Richardson, who goes No. 22 to the Baltimore Ravens, the Texans get the guy most had headed to them early in the process and they add the NFL Draft's top defensive player to go with him.

It's a solid start to rebuilding Houston's roster, and two new top-end talents for coach DeMeco Ryans to start putting his stamp on the franchise with.
