Texans to Host QB C.J. Stroud For Top-30 NFL Draft Visit
The Houston Texans might not have their absolute choice when it comes to selecting their quarterback of the future.
But one way or another, it is widely expected that they will select one with the No. 2 overall pick in next month's NFL Draft.
And now, their top choices are beginning to come into focus, with the Texans set to host Ohio State Buckeyes star quarterback C.J. Stroud for a top-30 NFL Draft visit on Wednesday, according to reports.
Stroud and the Texans already have a pre-existing relationship, thanks to the meetings held at the NFL Combine.
Meetings that Stroud himself believes he performed very well in and hoped to build on going forward.
"I’m looking forward to going deeper and deeper and building a relationship with them," Stroud said at the combine. "They asked me some questions, and I feel like I did really well in the interview process with them. I got to meet everybody in their front office and had a great conversation."
However, even at No. 2 overall, Stroud might not be on the board when Houston is on the clock.
In recent weeks, Stroud has been largely projected to go No. 1 overall to the Carolina Panthers, who traded for the selection with the Chicago Bears on March 10.
As a result, most mock drafts have favored the Texans selecting Alabama's Bryce Young instead.
Even still, considering that every team has a finite amount of top-30 visits, the fact that the Texans are still inviting Stroud to Houston to use one of those spots would seem to indicate that - at the very least - it is far from a certainty that the Panthers will select the two-time Heisman finalist with the first pick.
Either way, the Texans should have the opportunity to land a premium prospect at the quarterback position.
And the Top-30 visit with Stroud is simply another step in that selection process.
