HOUSTON — The Houston Texans added several prominent veterans to their roster during free agency to help enhance their on-field production in 2023.

Running back Devin Singletary and tight end Dalton Schultz headlined the free agents Houston was able to sign. But linebacker Denzel Perryman brings another level of notable veterans who can help the franchise next season.

"I’m fired up to work with him," coach DeMeco Ryans said. "He’s been a pleasure to have, great energy. [You] feel the leadership, what he brings to our entire team, and it’s been fun to work with him. I’m excited to see him come to training camp."

Perryman participated in the Texans' OTA practices during the third and final week. He had a late start to the off-season workout program due to his rehab from labrum surgery.

The Texans will be Perryman's third team ahead of his eight-year in the league. He was a member of the Las Vegas Raiders the last two seasons.

Perryman recorded 237 tackles, 19 tackles for loss, and eight quarterback hits during his time with the Raiders. In 2021, Perryman received his lone Pro Bowl selection while helping Las Vegas go 10-7. He finished the year leading the team in tackles with a career-high 154.

The then-San Diego Chargers made Perryman a second-round pick (No. 48 overall) of the 2015 NFL Draft as a prospect from Miami.

"It’s good to see him back out there," Ryans said. "Knowing his track record and seeing him make a ton of plays in this league, being an All-Pro player — a Pro-Bowl player."

With the addition of Perryman, the Texans' linebacker corps consist of veterans Christian Kirksey and Cory Littleton. Second-year prospect Christian Harris. And rookie Henry To’oTo’o — Houston's fifth-round selection of the 2023 NFL Draft.
