Texans Projected to Make 'Major Leap' in 2024

The Houston Texans are set up as well or better than any other NFL Franchise in terms of the future.

The Houston Texans are coming off a remarkable first season under head coach DeMeco Ryans.

Not only did the team improve from their 3-13-1 2022 season, but they soared past expectations, finishing 10-7 and winning the AFC South.

They did so despite a good portion of the core of their team being extremely young, led by a first-year head coach, a rookie quarterback in C.J. Stroud, and a rookie edge rusher in Will Anderson Jr.

Not to mention other rookies and younger key figures on the roster such as Derek Stingley Jr., Jalen Pitre, Nico Collins, Tank Dell, Juice Scruggs, and others.

And as a result of the youth and talent on the roster, as well as the incredible financial flexibility at the franchise's disposal, CBS Sports has labeled Houston as one team that is expected to take a 'major leap' in 2024.

Stroud gets his top two pass catchers back next season, along with

Dalton Schultz

. Defensive Rookie of the Year

Will Anderson Jr

. now has a full year in the NFL under his belt and rising corner

Derek Stingley Jr

. will only get better on a defense that went from 25th in yards allowed per possession to 13th.

A first-place schedule will be the Texans' biggest challenge, as they won't swoop under the radar anymore. Stroud having a full offseason to hone his craft is dangerous for the rest of the league. Remember, the Texans went to the divisional round in Year 1 with Ryans and Stroud.

Certainly, there is reason for optimism in Houston. The aforementioned youth, alongside $57 million in cap space and elite veterans like Laremy Tunsil make it hard to see it any other way.

However, as mentioned, the 2024 schedule will be much different for Houston than it was in 2023, facing division champs like the Ravens, Bills, Lions, Cowboys, Chiefs, and Jaguars, as well as other tough matchups with the Dolphins and Packers.

Nevertheless, if the Texans can take a similar leap from 2023 to 2024 as they did from 2022 to 2023, the sky is the limit for Ryans, Stroud and company.
