Texans QB C.J. Stroud is Tired of Brock Purdy Disrespect

Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud is tired of seeing Brock Purdy get disrespected by NFL fans.

The San Francisco 49ers are one day away from taking on the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVIII.

And despite what some fans and pundits may say, the Niners made it to Las Vegas in large part due to the play of their second-year quarterback, Brock Purdy.

Over the last two seasons, many have called the former Mr. Irrelevant overrated, or a game manager, crediting the majority of the team's success to the elite roster surrounding him.

However, in a recent interview ahead of the big game, Houston Texans QB C.J. Stroud revealed his thoughts on Purdy, and why he is tired of those narratives.

“I don’t like how people do Purdy,” Stroud said. "I think Purdy’s a good player, I think Purdy’s a hell of a player. I was watching a video (of Purdy highlights) today on the bus... Most of them were great throws... There’s nothing basic about being an NFL quarterback, nothing. Let’s get one thing clear: there’s nothing easy. I don’t care if somebody seems wide open."

Indeed, Purdy might not have the flash and perceived 'big play' ability as Lamar Jackson or Dak Prescott, but he did put up elite numbers in the 2023 regular season.

Purdy ranked fifth in the NFL in passing yards (4,280), fourth in completing percentage (69.4), third in touchdowns (31), and first in QBR (72.7) - all elite numbers better across the board than the MVP Jackson and his Super Bowl counterpart Patrick Mahomes.

That said, Stroud doesn't even have to look at the numbers to see how good Purdy has been, noting how difficult it is to do what he has been doing consistently as an NFL quarterback.

"I don't think you can play at a high level like he is, and just be average," Stroud said. "That just doesn't happen. Do I think he's on a great team? Heck yeah... he has a team full of dogs. That team should be in the Super Bowl... You've got to be somebody that's going to lead the locker room. There are a lot of things that people don't see that I know that I know he's in there doing because they're winning football games. "

Now, in just his second year in the league, Purdy will face off against Mahomes on Sunday in hopes of winning his first Super Bowl - something else about the QB that is anything but average.
