Texans QB Draft Rumor: Trade for Will Levis, Pass on C.J. Stroud?

A new suggestion has the Texans trading for Will Levis, taking Tyree Wilson at No. 2 and passing on C.J. Stroud.
In this story:

The Houston Texans have enough muscle in this NFL Draft to create buzz, speculation and rumors - and this one is a doozy.

What if they select Texas Tech edge Tyree Wilson with the No. 2 pick? Controversial enough, meaning they will be passing on one of the top two QBs in the draft.

But what if additionally, as NFL.com's Lance Zierlein speculates, the QB they pass on is C.J. Stroud ... and additionally after that, what if they trade up from No. 12 to get QB Will Levis?

Zierlein notes that the Texans "might not be a lock" to take Stroud if Bryce Young goes No. 1. That is purely speculative, of course; we really don't know exactly what Carolina (at No. 1) and Houston think of the two prospects.

But is the pass-rusher better than the quarterback?

And is supposedly-"nosediving'' Kentucky star Levis at No. 7 (in a proposed swap with the Raiders) a better value - and more important, ultimately, a better player, than Young or Stroud at No. 2?

The Texans have 12 picks, which allows them the aforementioned muscle to move. At the same time, there is a risk in overthinking this. Houston would, we think, not be at all in the majority in thinking Levis is as obvious an answer to the "franchise QB'' search as Young and Stroud are.

And of course another QB, Florida's Anthony Richardson, belongs in this conversation as well.

Pass-rusher might be the sport's second-most important position behind QB. That might justify the Wilson decision. But getting QB right is still the No. 1 thing ... which means Houston simply must get it right at No. 2.
