Houston QB Clayton Tune Thinks 'It Would Be Awesome' to Play For Texans

Ahead of the NFL Draft, University of Houston quarterback prospect Clayton Tune would love a chance to play for the Houston Texans.

HOUSTON — The subpar play of Davis Mills last season has the Houston Texans on the verge of drafting a quarterback during the 2023 NFL Draft.

The Texans will likely select C.J. Stroud or Bryce Young with the No. 2 pick of the draft. But even if they change their approach, Houston can still come out of the draft with a quarterback prospect in Clayton Tune.

According to Brian Barefield of USA Today, the quarterback from the University of Houston revealed he has met with the Texans and would love to play for his hometown team.

"To be able to stay in Houston and play in front of my fans," Tune said. "I am sure there are a lot of UH fans, that are also Texans fans, so being able to play in front of the same crowd would be great. I am super familiar with the city so it would be awesome."

Tune led the Houston Cougars to an 8-5 record during the 2022 campaign. He finished his five-year career throwing for 11,127 yards and 95 touchdowns. He also added 1,298 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns on the ground.

Mills hopes to retain his role as the Texans' starter under center next season. But with Houston linked to nearly every quarterback prospect, it's an indication the Texans will likely replace Mills' services in April, whether it's Tune, Stroud or Young.

"I think if you just look at my track record, I just make any team better,” Tune said. "This past season if you just look at the amount of times, we had to come back in the fourth quarter. I feel like I was able to play well in crunch time and bring my team along to get us the lead late in the game."
