Texans QB Coach Jerrod Johnson To Participate NFL's Accelerator Program
HOUSTON — Houston Texans' quarterback coach Jerrod Johnson will participate in the NFL Coach Accelerator program, a three-day event that will begin on Sunday. Johnson will be one of 40 participants at the Spring League Meeting in Minneapolis.
The program aims to increase exposure between owners, executives and diverse coaching talents.
"In the year since its inception, we've been encouraged by the positive response to the Accelerator from both club owners and participants," NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said. "We look forward to continuing to build on an incredible program that supports diverse talent."
Johnson will serve as the Texans' quarterback coach as part of DeMeco Ryans' inaugural staff as head coach of the Texans. He is coming to the Texans after one season as an assistant quarterbacks coach of the Minnesota Vikings during the 2022 campaign.
Kirk Cousins had one of his best seasons working alongside Johnson. While leading the Vikings to a 13-4 record, Cousins completed 65.9 percent of his passes for 4,547 yards, 29 touchdowns and 14 interceptions.
Johnson, 34, is a Houston native and former Texas A&M and NFL quarterback. His hiring marked the end of Pep Hamilton's two-year stint with the Texans.
Before taking the helm as offensive coordinator, Hamilton worked as the Texans' quarterbacks coach in 2021. He remained the position coach for two seasons before his firing in February.
Hamilton will join Johnson as one of 40 coaches participating in the NFL Coach Accelerator program.
