Texans' C.J. Stroud Lists Top 5 NFL QBs - With 1 Surprise
C.J. Stroud is now working toward someday having his name on the list when a young quarterback comes into the NFL and is asked to list the league's best QBs. But for now? The Houston Texans rookie is the guy being asked about a list ... and a guy surely dreaming of that "someday.''
It was before April's NFL Draft, and before Stroud made his official connection with Houston, when he was quizzed by The Game Day's Adam Tabatchnick, who asked Stroud to name his top five quarterbacks.
"It's hard, bruh,'' said the Ohio State product, who is doing "sky's the limit'' work in Texans OTAs so far. "There's a lot of dogs out there, so I respect everybody."
C.J. is right about the "dogs'' and he's right to make clear he "respects everybody'' - that way, anyone omitted or overlooked in any way cannot carry a bulletin-board-material grudge.
But for the record, Stroud's list (maybe in no particular order) includes the Eagles' Jalen Hurts, the Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes, the Bengals' Joe Burrow and the Bills' Josh Allen. Of course, that's only four. So the interviewer suggested Lamar Jackson of the Ravens - a perfectly legit choice - before Stroud made what is at first glance a surprising choice.
He went with Justin Fields ... who on second glance makes some sense to have popped into C.J.'s head first because Fields really might be on the come with the Bears, but also because those Buckeyes QBs - so often maligned when they come into the NFL - absolutely must stick together.
Now that Stroud is in an NFL uniform, he's working to build his way onto other guys' lists (not counting the Rookie of the Year list he's already on) ... and working his way to being one of those "dogs out there.''
