Derek Carr Move to Free Agency Official: Could Houston Texans Sign?
Once upon a time, Derek Carr was "broken-hearted'' at not being drafted by the Houston Texans. Time passed. The Las Vegas Raiders made a massive mistake in giving Carr all the power in his most recent contract.
And now? Make no mistake - Carr is flexing his muscles. … with the Houston Texans rumored to be attached.
But not via trade.
Carr has a no-trade clause in his contract and have informed the Raiders that he will block any trade, meaning he was demanding to be cut outright. ...
On Tuesday, he got cut - right ahead of a deadline that would've guaranteed him a massive guaranteed payday in Vegas.
That has made him a free agent, available to continue his flirtation with the New Orleans Saints … and to listen if Houston wants in.
Last week, one mock draft from 33rd Team had Houston getting Carr via trade.
In that scenario, of course, Carr’s new team has to give up assets, thus weakening his new roster.
With the No. 2 pick, the Texans could simply select Ohio State quarterback CJ Stroud or Alabama QB Bryce Young.
The Texans could be faced with a choice. What does the DeMeco Ryans coaching staff think of Carr in general? How much is he worth in a new contract? Does he make Houston instantly better - significantly better - than a top rookie with a cheap contract?
Derek Carr is in the driver’s seat here … with the Texans needing to contemplate if they’d like to hitch a ride.
