HOUSTON -- The Houston Texans continued to add to their defense Tuesday morning. As first reported by KPRC's Aaron Wilson, the Texans and veteran linebacker Del'Shawn Phillips have agreed to a one-year deal.

Phillips marks the fifth defensive player the Texans have signed since free agency began on Monday. The signing of Phillips also marks the second linebacker Houston has added, which could signal the end of the team's pursuit of Patrick Queen.

Phillips is coming off a two-year stint with the Baltimore Ravens, where he recorded a combined 29 tackles and one forced fumble in 33 games. A bulk of Phillips' production came on special teams, where he played a combined 71.5 percent of his snaps.

Before joining the Ravens in 2022, Phillips played respective seasons for the Buffalo Bills and New York Jets.

His best season came during the 2021 season, where he recorded a career-best 31 tackles and 1.0 sacks. Phillips also played a career-best 160 snaps for the Jets. By joining the Texans and playing for coach DeMeco Ryans, Philips will get a chance to play in a similar defensive scheme as Jets coach Robert Saleh.

Was Denico Autry Texans' Best Free Agency Signing of Day 1?

The Texans have had a solid start to free agency despite missing out on several prominent names, including running back Saquon Barkley, while not re-signing Jonathan Greenard.

Other noteworthy signings the Texans made during Day 1 of free agency were highlighted by defensive end Denico Autry, linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair and former first-round pick cornerback Jeff Okudah.
