Injury Relief: Houston Texans Work Out 5, Sign Lineman Geron Christian
The Houston Texans added to their offensive line room Tuesday.
The Texans signed offensive tackle Geron Christian to the practice squad, his agent Vince Taylor of Elite Loyalty Sports told KPRC's Aaron Wilson. Christian will try and provide some depth on Houston's offensive line with tackles Tytus Howard, DJ Scaife and Kilian Zierer on injured reserve and Laremy Tunsil dealing with a knee injury.
Christian was one of five players that the Texans worked out Tuesday, including offensive tackle Julie’n Davenport, defensive backs Tae Hayes and Larry Brooks and wide receiver Jontre Kirklin, according to KPRC.
Christian, a third-round pick in the 2018 draft by Washington, will be returning to Houston for his second stint. The Louisville Cardinals' product was a Texan in 2021, playing in 14 games while starting eight others.
The Ocala, Florida, native played the first three years of his career in Washington, appearing in 24 games and starting eight contests.
Last year, Christian played in 10 games for the Kansas City Chiefs mainly on special teams, though, taking 55 of his 66 snaps in the third phase. Christian was inactive for each of his final six games with the Chiefs before being waived Jan. 4.
The Miami Dolphins claimed Christian Jan. 5 but did not play in their season finale against the New York Jets.
Christian re-signed with the Dolphins in March but was released on Miami's final cutdown day at the end of the preseason. He has not appeared in a game this season.
The Texans have had to make a flurry of moves to compensate for the injuries on their offensive line.
Houston has tackles George Fant, Josh Jones and Tunsil listed on the active roster, while Austin Deculus is currently on the practice squad.
