Texans Sign Vikings CB Cameron Dantzler
Add another veteran to the Houston Texans' defensive secondary unit. Per a team release on Tuesday, the Texans have signed former Minnesota Vikings cornerback Cameron Dantzler as a free agent.
Dantzler's move to Houston marks his fourth NFL team in the past six months following a battle with injury that's seen him signed and waived by the Vikings, Commanders and Bills.
Last season, Dantzler appeared in 10 games for Minnesota, tallying 50 total tackles and a game-winning fumble recovery against a former teammate during the Vikings' Week 5 matchup against the Chicago Bears.
His injuries are troubling, but now that he's presumably healthy and ready to play, the Texans will get a chance to gauge his potential against their other top cornerbacks like Derek Stingley Jr. and Steven Nelson.
Dantzler, if he earns a spot on the final roster, would bring veteran experience from Minnesota along with a high upside if he remains healthy. While that can't be easily gauged prior to the regular season, practice is a solid place to start for coach DeMeco Ryans.
The fourth-year veteran will get his first chance on the field for Houston during its third-and-final preseason matchup against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. CST.
