How Houston's Trade For Stefon Diggs Resulted In Boasting Top-Ranked Receiver Unit
The Houston Texans' trade for wide receiver Stefon Diggs heightened their odds of winning the Super Bowl and elevated the pass-catcher room as a whole.
According to NFL analyst Jordan Pun, Diggs's arrival helps Houston’s wide receiver room combine for the most career receiving yards in the NFL.
Pun lists the Texans atop the ranking with 24,330 combined career receiving yards. The next closest team is Tampa Bay at 19,713, with help from Mike Evans and Chris Godwin. Houston received a healthy contribution from Robert Woods, who has 8,030 career yards.
But Diggs is responsible for the No. 1 ranking, pitching in 9,995 yards. Diggs has been consistent throughout his career, and that was on display last season when he hauled in 107 passes for 1,183 yards and eight touchdowns. Through four seasons in Buffalo, he compiled 445 catches for 5,372 yards and 37 touchdowns. Prior, he spent five seasons with the Vikings, logging 365 catches for 4,623 yards and 30 touchdowns.
Nico Collins was Houston’s leading receiver last season. After entering the campaign with 927 career yards, Collins tacked on 1,297 to his total and scored eight touchdowns in 15 games. Houston’s second-leading receiver was Tank Dell, who has 709 career yards and seven touchdowns after an electric rookie campaign.
The Texans will be under plenty of pressure when the upcoming season arrives, and franchise legend J.J. Watt is preaching patience to avoid unrealistic expectations.
“Think about where this franchise was two years ago, and then you think about where they are today and some of the conversations that are happening, some of the expectations that are being put upon this team,” Watt said on the Pat McAfee Show. “I do think that you could say it’s a situation where the excitement level and expectation level has built so high so fast that it almost is starting to become unrealistic.”
