Could Texans Trade For Chiefs Star L'Jarius Sneed?
The defending Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs did as most expected on Monday, placing the franchise tag on star cornerback L'Jarius Sneed.
That said, that doesn't mean he will be back in Kansas City in 2024, with the Chiefs also granting him permission to seek a trade in order to secure his future with a long-term deal.
And with the Chiefs giving Sneed the go-ahead to seek a new home, the Houston Texans could, and likely should make some inquiries on the star corner.
Fresh off a surprise playoff appearance, the Texans are looking to take the next step to become a true contender. In order to do that, though, they'll need some help in the secondary, and there's no way around it.
Houston finished in the bottom half of the league in most passing stats last season, already not a great start. The Texans' do have corner Derek Stingley Jr., but outside of that, there is questions abound at the position.
Sneed, who didn't allow a single touchdown in coverage during the regular season, would immediately give the Texans a game-changer in the secondary, as well as one of the best one-two punches at the position in the NFL. He's also a two-time Super Bowl champion, and more championship experience is never a bad thing.
Texans Sign Dalton Schultz to Long-Term Deal
Even though he would cost a pretty penny, the Texans can certainly afford to pay him what he wants as they have almost $70 million in cap space.
Sneed is likely better than any other free-agent cornerback available this offseason, so if Texans GM Nick Caserio is serious about Houston making the jump, it wouldn't be too shocking to see him pull the trigger.
