Houston Texans Will Face A New Play Caller vs. Carolina Panthers
The Houston Texans are enjoying a well-deserved rest in Week 7. But the week following, we get to see the first matchup between the first two picks of the 2023 NFL Draft, Panthers quarterback Bryce Young and Houston signal caller C.J. Stroud.
And now, the defense will have to prepare for a potentially different offense in Carolina. Panthers head coach Frank Reich made the announcement on Monday that. he will give up play-calling duties.
Thomas Brown - who came over from the Rams last offseason - will now take over that responsibility. Brown previously served as an assistant head coach and tight ends coach in Los Angeles last year.
Reich hinted at the change in the offseason, and said on Monday that he sees the switch as a "great opportunity" for Brown and Young to grow the offense and "develop a bond and a closeness that’s really important in the process.”
Young said he was looking forward to the opportunity to work with Brown and see where the offense can go from here.
“We were always working toward that,” Young said, via Augusta Stone of the team’s website. “He made that known far before the season started. We didn’t necessarily have a timeline, but we always knew that this was coming. I’m super excited. I’m excited for the future.”
Young and the Panthers are also on their bye in Week 7, and both teams will have an opportunity to be more healthy and rested for the matchup on Oct. 29. Through six weeks of the season, no one in the NFC South has taken a hold of the division, with Jacksonville sitting on top at 4-2, and the Colts and Texans just behind at 3-3. The Titans are in last place at 2-4.
The Panthers are still looking for their first win of the season at 0-6. The two teams will match up at Bank of America Stadium on Oct. 29 at 12 p.m. CT.
