'I Got My Feet Down!' Houston Texans WR Tank Dell Says The Refs Got It Wrong
Texans rookie wideout Tank Dell says the referees made the wrong call in the potentially game-tying play against the Jaguars. Houston had a chance to take the lead in the AFC South with a win on Sunday against rival Jacksonville.
We could point the finger at a few different reasons for the loss, including some dropped passes and two missed field goals by Matt Ammendola - including a 58-yard game-tying effort that would've sent the contest into overtime.
The officiating has been criticized by both sides, but calls against the Texans seemed worse. One that stands out was the call on Dell being out of bounds on a potentially game-changing play.
"I definitely got my feet down," Dell told reporters.
Even with the call incomplete, Dell and Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud still made history. Stroud and Dell became the sixth rookie quarterback receiving pairing in NFL history to connect for at least seven touchdowns and the first duo since Indianapolis' Andrew Luck and T.Y. Hilton in 2012 to accomplish the feat.
Dell was tagged with another bad call besides the "incomplete" pass. His illegal shift penalty negated a big 50-yard play, but Dell was the only player in motion, so there really was no penalty. Another bad call that could've affected the outcome of the game.
With the loss, the Texans fall two games behind the Jags for the lead in the AFC South and have split the season series.
Up next, Houston faces a suddenly resurgent Denver Broncos team that just won their fifth in a row with a 29-12 win over the Browns on Sunday.
