This was supposed to be a time of celebration for the Mahomes family - and for some of the most prominent members of their fan base, including Taylor Swift and Patrick Mahomes Sr. - as NFL quarterback Patrick Mahomes is arriving in Las Vegas for Super Bowl Week, where on Sunday his Kansas City Chiefs will play the San Francisco 49ers.

But instead, a disturbing issue as the QB's father, Patrick Mahomes Sr., has been arrested and charged for allegedly driving while under the influence in Texas - his third such arrest.

If convicted, Mahomes Sr. could face two to 10 years in prison.

According to arrest records, Patrick Mahomes Sr. was arrested in Smith County on Saturday and charged with a DWI ... continuing a series of the elder Mahomes' brushes with the law when it comes to alcohol and driving.

Among those incidents: In 2018, he was charged with his second DWI and was sentenced to 40 days in prison. He served those days on the weekends starting February 2019 through February 2020.

Mahomes Sr, 53, was arrested by the Tyler Police Department and his mugshot was posted to the Smith County jail records portal along with news of his bond being set at $10,000. According to those records, Mahomes Sr., a former Major League Baseball pitcher, was released on Sunday.

Mahomes Sr. has frequented Chiefs games and has been a popular figure in pictures with his son and other players, as has entertainment giant Swift, the girlfriend of Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.
