Steelers' Tomlin in Trouble? Bills Too Hot? Texans Weekend WATCH
The Houston Texans play the Cleveland Browns on Sunday and given that the Browns are 9-5 and sitting in the top AFC Wild Card playoff slot, Houston at 8-6 obviously needs to keep its eyes on the prize.
But on Saturday? Those eyes are allowed to wander a bit, as three of teams the Texans are jousting with are in action.
At 3:30 p.m. CT, the Cincinnati Bengals play at the Pittsburgh Steelers. Cincy (8-6) is in the No. 6 slot and hoping they can keep winning with journeyman QB Jake Browning in for out-for-the-year star Joe Burrow.
And the Steelers? They are reeling, at 7-7 having lost three straight, with a shift today to third-string QB Mason Rudolph and postseason odds that in three weeks according to some of the Big Computers have shrunk from 80 percent to under 5 percent ... with iconic coach Mike Tomlin in trouble.
Will Pittsburgh ever fire Tomlin? Will he try to work his way out of the Steelers after this year?
The playoffs could fix all of that. But with this Pittsburgh offense having scored 18 or fewer points in five straight games, the Texans probably aren't too frightened here.
The Buffalo Bills are in the No. 9 slot and play tonight at the rudderless Chargers. So yes, they are behind Houston ... but at 8-6, they might be surging and yes, they are pretty scary in terms of firepower.
Texans Rule Stroud OUT vs. Browns
And then there are the Texans, 8-6 themselves and in the No. 8 slot with the Browns, the Titans and the Colts. The Big Computer gives Houston a 59-percent chance of making the playoffs ... a number that goes up depending on what happens today, what happens Sunday and maybe how quickly sidelined rookie sensation QB C.J. Stroud comes back from his concussion.
