Saquon Barkley Signing: Texans Came How Close in NFL Free Agency?
A source tells TexansDaily.com that the Houston Texans, after coming up short as they competed in NFL free agency on Monday for former Pro Bowl running back Saquon Barkley, have turned their attention to Joe Mixon, who just got released by the Cincinnati Bengals.
In the flurry of opening-day movement, the Texans lost their starting running back from last season as Devin Singletary joins the Giants on a three-year, $16.5 million deal.
And in between it all, Houston apparently believes that it had an "almost-winning'' bid submitted for Saquon, who has become fast friends with Texans "recruiting assistant'' C.J. Stroud. How "almost''?
The Texans were reportedly willing to offer $33 million over three years ... a perfectly viable number ... until the Philadelphia Eagles bowled over the Philly-area native with their three-year offer of $37.75 million, with $26 million fully guaranteed and an "up-to'' opportunity to make $46.75 million maximum.
There was a ceiling on what the Texans would do ... and in short, Philly exceeded it.

The Texans reportedly also expressed interest in Indianapolis Colts free agent runner Zach Moss, but Moss has moved to Cincy in the wake of Mixon's release there ... so the game of Running Back Musical Chairs plays on ...
Singletary is replacing Barkley in New York. Moss is replacing Mixon in Cincinnati. Derrick Henry and Aaron Jones represent the biggest names left on the board, along with Mixon ... who might just take the chair that was reserved for Barkley in Houston.
