HOUSTON — The Houston Texans have spent the first two days of free agency adding depth to their defense. And due to Coach DeMeco Ryans' desires to add talent to the team's defensive front, there is a chance Houston could land former first-round pick Chase Young.

A source tells TexansDaily.com "there's some noise around" Young and the Texans. However, Houston "will have competition" amid their pursuit.

Young finished the 2023 season as a member of the San Francisco 49ers, where he played in Super Bowl LVIII. He recorded a sack in a 25-22 overtime loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Young began the season playing for the Washington Commanders, who drafted him with the No. 2 overall pick in 2020.

The Commanders traded Young to the 49ers at the NFL trade deadline in November. Young posted 7.5 sacks and 15 quarterback hits in 16 games during the 2023 season. Last season marked Young's healthiest year since sustaining an ACL injury in 2021.

According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, the Carolina Panthers, New Orleans Saints, and Tennessee Titans have also expressed interest in the one-time Pro Bowler.

Was Denico Autry Texans' Best Free Agency Signing of Day 1?

The interest in Young comes a day after the Texans lost Jonathan Greenard to the Minnesota Vikings Monday morning during Day 1 of free agency. Houston has since added Denico Autry, a pass rusher who recorded 11.5 sacks for the Tennessee Titans.

The Texans landed running back Joe Mixon via a trade from the Cincinnati Bengals Tuesday morning. Other noteworthy signings made during Day 1 of free agency were linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair and former first-round pick cornerback Jeff Okudah.
