HOUSTON -- General manager Nick Caserio and coach DeMeco Ryans gave detailed answers on how they would like to revamp the Houston Texans' roster during the 2024 NFL Combine. Their top priority was to add depth at every position. However, Caserio revealed he would like to pair Derek Stingley Jr. with another vital cornerback.

"There are a lot of good players out there in free agency, including some of our players," Caserio said. "But we are going to have someone out there playing opposite of Stingley. We will work through it over the next few weeks and see where we end up."

The Texans signed former first-round pick Jeff Okudah at the start of free agency on March 11. But there is a slight chance that Caserio can add another prominent defensive back to the team's cornerback unit with the acquisition of Xavien Howard.

Howard became a free agent following his release from the Miami Dolphins on March 13.

During his guest appearance on The OGs podcast, the former All-Pro cornerback expressed his desire to join the Texans following a successful 2023 season. He would love a chance to play for his hometown team while teaming up with Ryans and quarterback C.J. Stroud.

"I would love to do that; back at home, the crib," Howard said. "I have Houston Rockets and the Texans tatted on me...It's a realistic option for me. They have a hell of a quarterback. I love a defensive coach."

Howard is far from the player who became the league's top cornerback in 2020. But his addition to Houston will help Caserio achieve his goal of pairing Stingley with another prominent cornerback.

Howard finished the 2023 season with one interception for the 11-6 Dolphins. However, he recorded 12 pass deflections, finishing one spot behind Stingley, who registered 13.
