The 49ers Sign Terrell Owens’ Son Terique Owens as a UDFA

This is a good story.

The 49ers invited Terrell Owens' son Terique Owens to their Local Pro Day earlier this month, and now they've signed him as an undrafted free agent.

Owens is a big wide receiver like his father was, he played at Missouri State and he must have impressed the 49ers coaches and front office personnel at the Local Pro Day. I noticed John Lynch talking to Owens for quite a while on the sideline that day. And a few days later, Lynch said the way Owens runs reminds him of his father, the Hall of Famer.

Lynch also is a Hall of Famer, and it's important to remember that he and Terrell Owners were contemporary. Lynch probably has the utmost respect for him as a competitor and an athlete -- I bet he gets a kick out of signing Owens' son.

The 49ers had lots of legacies they could have added this weekend -- Jerry Rice son's Brendan Rice, Frank Gore's son Frank Gore Jr. and Christian McCaffrey's brother Luke McCaffrey. Ultimately, the 49ers decided to add the son of a player who was quite the malcontent when he played for the 49ers. Terrell Owens did not leave the 49ers on good terms. You'd understand if the 49ers wouldn't want him around the organization.

But they've embraced Terrell Owens and his son. And for what it's worth, when Terique Owens participated at the 49ers' Local Pro Day, Terrell Owens was there watching. You can tell he's extremely invested in his son, which is wonderful. Congratulations to the two of them.
