Could The Titans Be On The Move Up Draft Order?

While it is the cray, lying season in the NFL, recent reports indicate the Tennessee Titans have been active in talks about moving up from their No.11 position in the first round. Their target is reportedly quarterback C.J. Stroud.

NASHVILLE - A report that began on Sunday night indicates that the Tennessee Titans are in the market to make a big move up the draft selection order. While this is not the first indication of their interest in such a move, it is another reason to pay attention in the coming days.

Let's be clear: this is the silly season in the NFL, and little is known about this site or where they are getting this information. Listening to the podcast, they make it clear that the Titans have shown interest, but at the same time, near the end, they share that the Titans don't likely have what it will take to make this move happen.

The potential cost of moving from No.11 to the No.1 position, which is likely where the Titans would have to go to ensure they get CJ Stroud, the reported subject of their interest in moving up, will be high. According to the oddsmakers at Fanduel, Stroud is the odds-on-favorite to go No. 1.

It's been my thought since this rumor began that the cost would be too high, and the Titans wouldn't have what it takes in this draft alone to pull it off. I don't think that sacrificing multiple future first-round picks is a smart move for a rookie quarterback that could not work out.

However, could Ran Carthon be prepared to pay that cost to make a significant impact move for a franchise quarterback just three months into his tenure as the team's general manager?

Again, I don't see it, but I'm not in Cathon's season understanding what Chicago wants in return for this move.

A league source indicated on Monday that while the Titans have spoken with Chicago, so too have several other teams currently sitting in front of the Titans in the draft order. All this will likely drive up the cost of the trade and likely push it out of reach for Carthon unless he is willing to sacrifice a lot.

As for now, this is just a rumor, but it is something worth keeping an eye on in the days leading up to the start of the draft. The Titans certainly need to get better after losing their last seven games a year ago. They are in the NFL's worst division — the AFC South — but are still far behind Jacksonville according to the odds on Fanduel to win the division. The Jaguars are minus-150 and the Titans are plus-360.
