ESPN’s Todd McShay Notes “Relationship” Between Mike Vrabel and Top QB CJ Stroud
NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Titans’ quarterback situation has been the most discussed topic of the entire offseason. That counts within the fan base and especially, outside the fan base. The Titans have thrown logs on that fire as well with their public interest in the quarterbacks in this year’s draft. One of those quarterbacks is CJ Stroud the former Ohio State pass and according to ESPN’s Todd McShay, there is already a relationship that is apparent between Titans head coach Mike Vrabel and Stroud.
In a conversation with Jim Wyatt of tennesseetitans.com, McShay spoke about an interaction between Vrabel and Stroud at Ohio State’s pro day in March. McShay outlined what was said and what it could mean for the Titans once the draft begins next Thursday.
"I was standing there with Stroud at the (Ohio State) Pro Day and (Mike) Vrabel came over and said: 'Hey, go take a shower and let's meet in the wide receiver room.' So, there's a relationship there, obviously with Vrabel and his background at Ohio State. That doesn't mean they are going to take him or want to move up for him. I'm just saying there is a relationship there, and it is interesting. But if Houston stays at 2 and takes a defensive lineman, then (Tennessee) has a real good chance to move up to 3 to the Arizona spot, but you're going to be competing with the Colts (who have the 4th overall pick), and you're going to be competing potentially with the Raiders at 7. So, how much are you willing to go up and get that guy?"
The interesting thing here is the competition with the Colts. Yes, it would be very expensive to go up to pick three to obtain Stroud, but not only do you get your signal caller of the future, but you block him from a division rival. There is a lot at stake at that point. You can improve yourself while also hurting one of your primary opponents.
With Mike Vrabel being a graduate from Ohio State, one could only hope he would have better intel than anyone in the league on Stroud. If the Titans and Vrabel feel comfortable and Stroud is there at three, they need to do what it takes to go get him and keep him away from Indianapolis in the process.
