Examining One More Mock Draft Before The Show Begins
NASHVILLE - When it comes to mock draft accuracy, Charles Davis, the former University of Tennessee defensive back turned NFL Network analyst, has had some success of late predicting which players teams in the top ten will select and what player the Tennessee Titans will select.
For instance, in 2021 and 2022, Davis nailed the first six selections in both drafts. While he missed the Titans targets in both those classes, he correctly predicted the Titans selections of Harold Landry in 2018 and Jeffrey Simmons in 2019.
When it comes to the Titans, Davis has a close working relationship with the organization, as he has served as the color analyst for the Titans preseason television broadcasts. That Davis knows this team, and upper-level personnel within the organization is an understatement.
Davis has his sources, both in Nashville and around the league. In short, he's connected.
So when Davis put out the final version of his mock draft earlier this week, I paid attention to what he wrote about the Titans.
So who did Davis predict for the Titans in 2023?
Florida quarterback Anthony Richardson the most dynamic offensive player in the draft.
"The Titans grab the QB with the highest ceiling, understanding that he will likely prep behind incumbent starter Ryan Tannehill in 2023. New GM Ran Carthon may have to move into the top 10 to secure this choice."
It's no surprise that Richardson is his selection, in the sense that his name has been associated with the Titans throughout this predraft process. To also say that the Titans might have to go up to get him has also been widely speculated in regard to the Titans moving up for a quarterback.
As late as Wednesday, ESPN shared a report that the Titans were looking to move up and would be willing to do what it takes to get in position to get their man.
So here we are, now 12 hours away from the first pick, and the Titans are moving up, no, moving back, standing still. We still don't know, but Davis's mock makes me wonder.
