NFL Scouting Combine: Titans Tout Depth of Draft Talent, Will Emphasize Playmakers

INDIANAPOLIS — Both general manager Ran Carthon and coach Brian Callahan seem pretty excited about the opportunity to rebuild the Tennessee Titans with the 2024 NFL Draft class. The two raved about the depth and talent available this year while speaking at the NFL Scouting Combine.

What's particularly encouraging? The depth among offensive linemen and wide receivers with this year's draft class. Those are both two major areas of concern for the Titans heading into the 2024 season.

Carthon was quick to talk about those position groups when asked what he likes most about this year's class.

"I think we're really deep at receiver in this draft. And offensive line, as a whole," Carthon said. "Which are two areas that we're gonna be focusing on. But it's a really deep class, a lot of talented young men, and we're looking forward to meeting with them throughout this process."

Because of the struggles last season along the offensive line — allowing a whopping 64 sacks last season — the consensus is that Tennessee will grab an offensive tackle with the No. 7 pick in the draft. But that's not a foregone conclusion, at least to Carthon.

"I think strategically, it's about the value, right? So, if you're sitting there and there's a receiver there, knowing there's a deep O-line class, it's like, okay, where can we supplement this position later," he said. "So it's about playing those two parts off of each other."

If the Titans do address offensive tackle with the seventh pick, Callahan feels pretty confident that there will still be plenty of receivers available who can make a quick impact.

"This is a really fun class of players. Really from the top part of the class all the way down to the bottom. There's gonna be good receivers, I think you'll find, that'll come off the board in the second third and fourth round that will be contributors for some teams. So, it's a deep class. There's a lot of variations of player."

Press conferences for Carthon and Callahan weren't running concurrently, but it was easy to tell the two are already on the same page.

Regardless of what position the team decides to prioritize first in the upcoming NFL Draft, both Carthon and Callahan talked about the importance of adding talent and speed to the roster.

"I think there's an element of explosiveness, of speed that we can add that would help us," Callahan said.

"Adding playmakers to our team. Whether that's offensively, defensively," Carthon said. "Just looking to bring people in that love football that want to be in our place."
