The Tennessee Titans kicked off the 2023 preseason against the Chicago Bears. The Titans lost the game 23-17, here is a recap of every offensive drive throughout the game including highlights, analysis and key plays.

Drive No. 1

  • Game status:  14:53 to go in the first quarter
  • Quarterback: Malik Willis
  • Plays/Yards: 12 plays, 75 yards
  • Result: Touchdown
  • Key play: Malik Willis 30-yard completion to Chris Moore. 
  • The skinny: Willis made a nice play to start the drive on the pass to Moore, but this drive was dominated by Tyjae Spears and the Titans offensive line. Spears gained 32 yards on six carries.

Drive No. 2

  • Game status: 6:21 to go in the first quarter
  • Quarterback: Will Levis
  • Plays/Yards: 5 plays, 5 yards
  • Result: Punt
  • Key play: Levis sacked on third down to end the drive.
  • The skinny: Levis almost threw a pick, but the drop in quality from the starting offensive line to the backup offensive line is what stood out.

Drive No. 3

  • Game status: 1:21 to go in the first quarter
  • Quarterback: Malik Willis
  • Plays/Yards: 3 Plays, 7 yards
  • Result: Punt
  • Key play: Willis nearly sacked, but completes for 6 yards on third down.
  • The skinny: Nothing went right for the Titans on this drive. Willis was off on a short screen throw and almost got sacked on third down.

Drive No. 4

  • Game status: 14:39 to go in the second quarter
  • Quarterback: Malik Willis
  • Plays/Yards: 1 Play, 0 yards
  • Result: Interception
  • SMH Moment: Willis threw an interception on the first play after a turnover.
  • The skinny: Willis had a ton of time and Whyle was open, but Willis threw the ball high and it tipped off Whyle's hands and to the Bears. 

Drive No. 5

  • Game status: 14:25 to go in the second quarter
  • Quarterback: Will Levis
  • Plays/Yards: 6 plays, 31 yards
  • Result: Touchdown
  • Key Play: Levis connects on the move with Mason Kinsey for 21 yards.
  • The skinny: Short-field score for the Titans, but a nice strike from Levis and a dive on fourth down by Haskins gets them on the board again.

Drive No. 6

  • Game status: 7:25 to go in the second quarter
  • Quarterback: Will Levis
  • Plays/Yards: 5 plays, 27 yards
  • Result: Fumble
  • Key Play: Levis completes a 21-yard pass to Racey McMath on third down.
  • SMH Moment: Josh Whyle fumbles after catching a Will Levis pass
  • The skinny: The Titans were on the move nicely with Will Levis connecting on a few passes, but after a completion to Whyle, Whyle fumbles. 

Drive No. 7

  • Game status: 1:58 to go in the second quarter
  • Quarterback: Malik Willis
  • Plays/Yards: 5 plays, 27 yards
  • Result: Fumble
  • SMH Moment: Malik Willis is hit in the pocket and fumbles after right tackle Zach Johnson is beat on the play.
  • The skinny: Hard to get anything done on offense with how poor the offensive line is playing.

Drive No. 8

  • Game status: 1:07 to go in the second quarter
  • Quarterback: Malik Willis
  • Plays/Yards: 9 Plays, 60 yards
  • Result: 41-yard Field Goal
  • Key Moment: Willis connected with Reggie Roberson Jr. for 13 yards after Willis scrambled from pressure. The play was reviewed and confirmed as a catch.
  • The skinny: Willis operated a smooth drive completing multiple passes and even gaining 13 yards with his legs. The Titans complete the mission and score three points before half.

Drive No. 9

  • Game status: 10:55 to go in the third quarter
  • Quarterback: Will Levis
  • Plays/Yards: 3 plays, 8 yards
  • Result: Punt
  • The skinny: Levis went deep to the sideline on second down and was a bit too high. That was sandwich in between a two-yard run and a five-yard completion short of the sticks that were forgettable. 

Drive No. 10

  • Game status: 3:56 to go in the third quarter
  • Quarterback: Will Levis
  • Plays/Yards: 8 plays, 45 yards
  • Result: Missed 48-yard Field Goal
  • Key Moment: Julius Chestnut took a handoff to the left and scampered for 26 yards. 
  • The skinny: Levis led a solid drive, but again the Titans' offensive line made it tough. Jaelyn Duncan gave up a sack and the Titans got stuffed on a critical third and three. Trey Wolff missed the field goal on fourth down.

Drive No. 11

  • Game status: 9:28 to go in the fourth quarter
  • Quarterback: Malik Willis
  • Plays/Yards: 4 plays, 14 points 
  • Result: Punt
  • SMH Moment: Malik Willis was sacked on third down with no shot to throw
  • The skinny: The Titans' offensive line has been so poor in this game. Gave up two sacks and had a false start on this drive. Hard to do anything offensively.

Drive No. 12

  • Game status: 4:24 to go in the fourth quarter
  • Quarterback: Malik Willis
  • Plays/Yards: 9 plays, 61 yards
  • Result: Turnover on Downs
  • Key Moment: Malik Willis hits Kearis Jackson for a catch and run for 25 yards.
  • SMH Moment: Willis had Kinsey open in the back of the end zone, but threw high and missed the chance at a go-ahead touchdown.
  • The skinny: The Titans had a chance to win the game, but fall short after a pass goes incomplete from Willis to Gavin Holmes.

Drive No. 13

  • Game status: :31 to go in the fourth quarter
  • Quarterback: Will Levis
  • Plays/Yards: 3 plays, 7 yards
  • Result: Interception
  • SMH Moment: Levis threw an interception trying to force things and go for the win.
  • The skinny: The Titans had a chance to win the game, but fall short again after a Levis interception on a desperate overthrow.
