Tennessee Titans Release Week 1 Inactive List, Will Levis Named 'Emergency QB'
The Tennessee Titans first game of the season requires the first inactive list of the year. The Titans can only have 48 players active on gamedays out of their 53 man roster. These are the players who will be inactive.
This biggest takeaway here is at the quarterback position. Despite Titans coach Mike Vrabel trying to keep it a secret for as long as possible, it does appear Malik Willis has won the backup quarterback compeition after all. It may be just for this week, but Willis is active and will be the backup.
This matters because Will Levis is now deemed the "emergency quarterback." That means that Levis may only enter the game if Ryan Tannehill and Willis both get hurt or ejected. In a scenario where Tannehill is hurt and Willis is playing poorly, the Titans would not be allowed to put in Levis. This is a major show of faith in Willis.
Cornerback Tre Avery was declared out on Friday, so the first name is no surprise. We see two offensive linemen inactive here with Dillon Radunz and Jaelyn Duncan. Radunz is most likely not ready for live game action after coming back from an ACL tear in 2022. Duncan is a raw rookie who the Titans won't want to play yet.
In place of those two linemen is Justin Murray. Murray is on the Titans' practice squad and was called up for this game. Along with him was Kyle Peko, defensive lineman who is also on the practice squad. He will play ahead of second-year defensive lineman Jayden Peevy.
The Titans also decided to make two rookies inactive in wide receiver Colten Dowell and edge rusher Caleb Murphy. With multiple players at both spots who would play over both rookies, the Titans decided they weren't needed at this time.
