NASHVILLE – Jeffery Simmons continues to learn on the job.

After all, the Tennessee Titans’ first-round draft pick practiced for just one week before he made his NFL debut less than a month ago.

“There’s a lot of things that come up in the game that can be better,” coach Mike Vrabel said this week. “There’s a lot of checks and communication that he’s getting for the first time, and we’re kind of just throwing him in there. Not having had training camp and a lot of practices, but I’d say his attitude has been fantastic.

“Again, the most important thing is that he’s able to continue to add those snaps and that workload … and factor in some plays.”

Thursday, Simmons lost additional practice time and created the possibility that he will have to sit out Sunday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs at Nissan Stadium.

Simmons was added to the injury report with a hamstring issue, which caused him to sit out the day’s entire practice session. He was the only player for either team listed who was not on Wednesday’s injury report.

Four other Titans – inside linebacker Jayon Brown, defensive tackle Jurrell Casey, wide receiver Corey Davis and tight end Delanie Walker – joined Simmons as spectators for Thursday’s work. Those four also sat out Wednesday’s workout. It is a high-profile group that includes two Pro Bowlers (Casey and Walker), two first-round draft picks (Davis and Simmons) and one of the defense’s leading tacklers (Brown).

A knee injury sidelined Simmons throughout the offseason, the preseason and the first six weeks of the regular season. In three games, he has registered 14 tackles with one sack, five quarterback pressures and a tackle for loss. Before Thursday, he had not appeared on the injury report since he played his first game.

He played a career-high 49 snaps Sunday at Carolina, a game Casey missed with a shoulder injury.
