Wednesday Injury Report: Jones On His Way Back

Starting center remains in concussion protocol but takes part in practice

NASHVILLE -- Things could have been better Sunday, when the Tennessee Titans were without starting center Ben Jones.

“There (were) some things that probably – I wouldn’t say it was terrible, but there (were) a few instances where maybe having a guy that’s been out there as much as (Jones has) been might have been avoidable,” coach Mike Vrabel said Monday.

Wednesday, it was clear that the eight-year veteran is getting better.

Jones, who had played 120 straight games and started 86 in a row, including all 56 since he joined the Titans in 2016, was a limited participant in Wednesday’s workout, according to the day’s practice report. That was more than he did at any point last week, when he ultimately sat out Sunday’s 30-20 loss to the Carolina Panthers due to a concussion.

Jones remains in the concussion protocol but appears to be on track for a return to action Sunday, when the Titans (4-5) host the Kansas City Chiefs (6-3) in their final game before a bye.

“There’s a lot of things that you have to do in the last couple stages to pass through the entire protocol,” Vrabel said. “He’s working on it.”

Two others who sat out the game at Carolina, defensive tackle Jurrell Casey (shoulder) and tight end Delanie Walker (ankle), were among those who did not practice Wednesday.

“Usually they don’t do a whole lot on Wednesdays anyway,” Vrabel said. “So, based on how they feel, we’ll see where they’re at towards the end of the week.”
