Former Titans Great Talks Kevin Byard In Monday Tweet
NASHVILLE - Much has been made of the absence of Kevin Byard from the Tennessee Titans recently completed organized team activity practices after reports surfaced earlier this year that the team had asked their star safety to take a pay cut.
While Byard has not spoken publicly, Titans head coach Mike Vrabel recently stated that he had spoken with Byard, and their conversation was great.
"Saw him at the golf course on Sunday. He looks great, we had a great conversation, so it was fun," Vrabel said following an OTA practice.
On Monday, former Titans All-Pro linebacker Keith Bulluck shared his thoughts on Byard and his situation with the Titans organization.
Lest we forget, and as Bulluck said, "it's a business," and the likelihood is that when we in the media arrive at St. Thomas Sports Park for the first of three open availabilities during this minicamp on Tuesday, Byard will be in attendance.
Again, as Bulluck stated, Byard is a "veteran team leader that has never missed a game & loves to ball!" He is also a consummate professional in every sense of the word and is under contract to the Titans.
This was not about Byard holding out in a contract dispute; this is about Byard possibly feeling slighted after the team asked him to take a pay cut. And even that is speculation, as Byard has not openly made that comment.
After all, what is there to gain from Byard not attending?
Nothing!
He's not holding out for more money and is not likely to miss out on getting paid what he is owed by missing the minicamp. He's intelligent, and it would be counterproductive to his bottom line.
I can't say this with absolute certainty, but like Bulluck, I believe Byard will be there, and he will come with an attitude and intent to remind the Titans who he is and what he brings into the building and on the field every day he's part of this roster.
