NASHVILLE - Avery Williamson joined the Tennessee Titans as a fifth-round pick following the 2014 NFL Draft. The former University of Kentucky star became an instant star with fans and the team for his workman-like approach and physical play.

After four seasons with his home state team, the former Milan High School (Tn.) star left the Volunteer State for the bright lights (and cash) of New York as a member of the Jets, signing a three-year, $22.50 million contract that includes $16 million guaranteed and a $6 million signing bonus.

He spent two seasons in New York before heading to Denver in 2021., He would return to the Titans, and back to the Broncos again in 2021 before finally announcing his retirement.

Following his retirement, Williamson moved to Miami, but by his own admission in an article published by The Jackson (Tn.) Post was bored.

“Honestly, it was nice, but it was also boring,” said Williamson, “But I took that year to figure out my next move, and last fall was my first time that I can remember not playing football.

“I wasn’t even involved in football, and I knew I needed to figure out what I’m supposed to do next.”

It didn't take long for him to find his new next,  as he was hired last month as an assistant coach at Jackson Christian School in Jackson, Tn.

He was hired earlier this month as an assistant football coach at Jackson Christian.

“I really had no connection with Jackson Christian a few months ago," said Williamson. "But things really worked out over the last couple of months to lead me to come here, and I’m pumped about it.”

Williamson becomes the latest former Titans to join the ranks of the high school coaching ranks in the state of Tennessee, following multiple others, with the latest being Hall of Famer Kevin Mawae, who recently became the head coach at Lipscomb Academy in Nashville.

Williamson ended his NFL career with 607 tackles, 15.5 sacks, five forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, and four interceptions.
