NASHVILLE - Ken Whisenhunt is back in the college football ranks, having joined the staff of Nick Saban at The University of Alabama. This according to an announcement on the school's athletic website.

The former Titans' head coach will serve as a "special assistant to the head coach." Whisenhunt served as the Titans' head coach during the 2014 and 2015 seasons before being fired during the 2015 season after his team registered a 3-20 mark under his direction.

Following his tenure in Nashville, Whisenhunt served as the offensive coordinator for the San Diego/Los Angles Chargers from 20116-19. He left the Chargers following the 2019 season and was out of coaching during 2020 before joining James Franklin's staff at Penn State before the 2021 season and spent two years working as an offensive analyst.

Whisenhunt will no have the opportunity to coach alongside his son-in-law, former Titans quarterback Zach Mettenberger, who met his future wife and Whisenhunt's daughter Mary Ashley. The two met where the coach and quarterback were in Nashville with the Titans.

Considered by most as a tremendous offensive mind, Whisenhunt's addition to the Alabama staff is viewed by some close to the program as an excellent addition to support new Crimson Tide offensive coordinator Tommy Rees in his role with the program.
