NASHVILLE - Former Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator Todd Downing has a new coaching position. According to a report by Ian Rappaport, Downing is off to New York to join the Jets as their passing game coordinator.

While that title might bring laughter to some TItans fans considering how things went in the passing game in Nashville during Downing's time as the team's offensive coordinator, it is a fresh start for Downing in a lesser role with his new team.

According to Rappaport, Downing will serve under new Jets offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett, who was also recently fired from his role as head coach of the Denver Broncos.

Downing made headlines of the wrong kind when he was arrested for DUI in the early morning hours on Nov. 18, shortly after the Titans’ team flight landed back in Nashville following a “Thursday Night Football” victory over the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field.

He recently served jail time in Williamson County for that arrest after his termination by the Titans. TMZ reported Downing turned himself in to authorities on January 30 to serve his sentence.

I’d like to acknowledge how serious this situation is,” Downing told reporters the week after the incident in November. “I understand how sensitive and troubling a subject this is, and I’m not naive to how much pain there may be for some people involved in similar situations.

“I’ve put my family through some things they don’t deserve. I have an amazing wife and an amazing son that love me unconditionally, and I don’t want them to have to endure anything more than what I’ve brought on.”

The news of Downing's hiring has been less than positive on social media.

The Titans promoted Tim Kelly to offensive coordinator, replacing Downing.
