NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Titans need to get a deal done with Jeffery Simmons as soon as possible because if they don’t, he will be one of the most sought-after free agents in next year’s offseason. According to a recent list done by the Athletic, Simmons would be one of the top ten players available.

Simmons comes in at number eight on the list and deservedly so. Simmons has made two all-pro teams in his first four seasons and consistently stuffed the stat sheet. Simmons has gone over seven sacks in both the last two years and has totaled 189 tackles in his career including 28 tackles for loss.

It is no surprise to see Simmons ranked so high, but what is surprising is that Simmons is actually the fourth highest interior defensive lineman in the rankings. Above him are Chris Jones(KC), Dexter Lawrence(NYG) and Quinnen Williams(NYJ). The author of the list, David DeChant, explains why that is.

“A year ago, Simmons looked like the best defensive tackle from the 2019 class, ahead of Williams and Lawrence, but he falls a shade shy here. The marginal difference is about pass rush: Simmons has 16 sacks and 30 QB hits since 2021 but lags somewhat in pressure rate (9.7 percent in 2022, 9.0 in his career). That’s no slight, though. Simmons is still a borderline elite interior rusher and one of the league’s best run defenders. He should also eclipse Payne’s deal.”

Jeffery Simmons may not have shown his true potential as a pass rusher quite yet, but that should not stop the Titans from throwing a bag at Simmons to keep him in Nashville for as long as they possibly can. The Titans’ roster is famished due to missing on first round picks over the last half decade so losing Simmons would be a fatal blow. Clearly, if the Titans aren’t willing to pay up, someone will be more than willing to do so.
